Chicken and egg question. We guess the connection between your love of filmography & music wasn’t just a total coincidence, but what came first for you both?
“Would have to say music, we are both musicians and being able to combine the two art forms has been really incredible and inspiring.”
Before the launch of HND$M*RND$M, what were you both doing and when did it occur to you to create the Handsome Randsome brand?
“We were both working in the business, Haven was shooting and editing videos for Travis and Matt was editing concert DVD’s and music videos for various artists. We had been friends for a while and knew of each other’s work. We decided that our skill-sets were very complimentary and decided to work on some projects together and thus HND$M*RND$M was born.”
When it came to the blink-182 summer ’09 tour, you guys had unprecedented access to the band, that all ‘182 fans would kill for and from what we’ve seen of teaser trailers and stills, the Blinkumentary will definitely have the “wow” factor for anyone who watches it. But what was the dialogue like between you guys and the band to get the whole concept of the Blinkumentary kicked off?
“We had a relationship with the guys prior to the reunion. Haven had made teaser vid for them on their Summer tour and when they announced their return at the Grammys we came up with films concept. The band was about to begin rehearsals for the tour and we knew that we wanted to shoot all of that to for the film. So thats when we then pitched the idea to them and they got on board.”
Most memorable moment(s) from summer ’09 tour while with the band?
Haven: “The whole experience was amazing! Everyone involved were so cool and accomidating, we really had such a great time on the tour. I have to say Madison Square Gardens was probably the highlight for me though, I mean the venue pretty much speaks for itself!! But every night after shooting we would be able to unwind in the dressing room or on the busses with each other and that was great. The people involved on this tour were so rad!”
Matt: “For me it was the second night in Vegas. We had so much fun shooting that show and afterwards went to the Palms to see Travis and AM play what would be their last show together. It is a really bitter sweet memory but it was such an amazing night and fun was had by everyone.”
How many hours of footage for the Blinkumentary have you currently taken and expect to take before the final cut? And is this the largest project you’ve taken on so far?
“Wow, yes, this has definitely been a huge project. Maybe the biggest we’ve ever worked on. We have no idea about an exact number of hours but it roughly a little over 100 hours of footage at the moment. We’re expecting to shoot a lot more though, so stay tuned! If you measured our footage in feet you could probably lasso the Moon.”
How much say do Mark, Tom & Travis have in the making of the Blinkumentary? What’s it like working with the band?
“We like to have their input on every step we take on this project, from the teaser trailers to the photos we put out. We have such a great relationship with these guys and it really has been a collaborative effort, which is the way we like to work with our artists. Working with them has been so rad and effortless it really doesn’t feel like work. They are really cool, down to earth guys.”
Other than the Blinkumentary, do you have any other current or upcoming projects to tell us about?
“We are still in full swing on the Blinkumentary at the moment, so our other side projects are on standby at the moment. We have some TV Show ideas and Music Videos in the pipeline.”
I think you’ve probably noticed that South American blink-182 fans are the most vocal (especially when it comes to Twitter) in terms of asking you, “When is the Blinkumentary coming out?!?”). Well guys, when can we expect it and will you feed us with some more teaser trailers between now and then?
“We have to give a big shout out to the South American fans! They have been onboard with this project since day one and have really pushed our cause on Twitter. They rock!! It is really hard to say when this film will be out as we are actually still in the middle of production. We will also be filming the recording of the new Blink 182 album so it may be a while yet. In the mean time we will definitely still be giving you fans trailers and sneak peeks, so keep a look out!”
Maybe this is a bit ahead of time, but have details been worked out yet in how the Blinkumentary will be made available to fans – shops, online, worldwide?
“It is still a little premature but we are expecting a full international release. Weather that be cinemas or dvd’s or vhs’s or hand puppet reinactions or milk cartons or sky writing is still to be determined.”
Any final words for the blink-182 fans?
“Stay as rad as you are and have been! Be sure to keep in touch on facebook and twitter. We are gonna keep on killing this film for you guys so we can bring you something awesome. Peace and love to all y’all!!”
